For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Christine Armstead, and I am a graduate student in West Virginia University’s Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) Program. This blog is a part of an ongoing assignment for IMC 619 – Emerging Media & the Market.

For at least the duration of this course, I invite you to join me on this academic journey as we explore how the advancement of technology is impacting the ways marketers and communicators engage with their target audiences.

Although I have over ten years communications experience working for consumer goods/services companies that are among the most respected brands in their industries–General Motors, Cingular Wireless (now AT&T Mobility), Coca-Cola Enterprises, and SunTrust Banks–the concept of integrating new technology into my work was and personally life was extremely intimidating.  Not too long ago, the concept of mobile apps, widgets, blogs, QR codes, RSS Feeds, real-time advertising, augmented reality, GPS marketing, and eye-tracking systems were highly foreign to me…at first.

To stay relevant and continue adding value as a communications practitioner, I knew I was going to have to face my fears and dive head first into a pool of what I considered technological ambiguity. I could no longer lean on my 20-year-old daughter’s seemingly intuitive knack for understanding and using this innovation.

As a result of my participation in WVU’s IMC program, I am actually excited about technology’s impact within marketing and communications.

Hopefully, you will find my enthusiasm infecteous. The goal of my blog is to serve as a relaxed, informative, and engaging forum where we can share information, inspire new thinking, and challenge each other to step beyond our comfort zones in hopes of discovering (or creating) something new and spectacular.

I look forward to our journey!
